In 2014, 43 people lost their lives when a landslide forever changed the landscape of Oso, Washington.
The design team, led by Alissa, was engaged by the County and the community to develop the concept design—called the Community Embrace—for the memorial site. Steel remembrance panels were conceived of as long-lasting scrapbook pages, inviting family and friends to hold their memories close even as they stand on the very site where so many perished.

OSO, WA
Ten years after the tragic slide, the concept was realized by Snohomish County and a team of consultants, contractors and artists. The site welcomes visitors to engage with the community past and present, understand the science of the slide, learn about the first responders who served for weeks on site, and express the love that family and friends feel for those who were lost.
